Petitions

petition is a request to do something, most commonly addressed to a government official or public entity. Petitions to a deity are a form of prayer called supplication. - Wikipedia

For the past few months, I have been asking the 6th and 5th grade students to sign the petition found here: http://beheardproject.com/saeed#sign,  to release our brother in Christ, Pastor Saeed, from prison in Iran for sharing the gospel. If your child has not shared this with you yet, I'd encourage you to go join the movement and sign the petition to help release our brother in bonds. Also, PLEASE pray for him and his family. They are separated for the 2nd holiday season now. Please share this petition with friends and family.

I think it's SUCH a God thing that in the midst of me sharing this petition with the students, the CCS history curriculum for 5th grade had the students write a petition themselves. How cool is that? This helped the students completely understand the importance of a petition and now they have plenty of experience with it!

Here are some pictures of the 5th graders reading and signing each others' petitions:

Philippians 4:4 - 7 "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to GodAnd the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Blessings!

Thanksgiving Break

Hello dear families and students,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I sure did. I was wanting to get this post out before the last day of break, but better late than never, right?! :)

The week before thanksgiving the students helped create a "Thankfulness Chain" for our classroom. We talked about our need to be thankful for people, things, good circumstances and even hard circumstances.

Being thankful to God for hard circumstances is not easy, but is vital to help us stay afloat during the hard times in life. It was interesting to hear the students' responses to circumstances they are thankful for!

Here are pictures of our class thankfulness chain in the making..

The 5th grader's didn't have as much time so they had to choose a one circumstance, person, and thing:

TA-DA! Here's half of the chain.

 I am thankful for...
1. Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior!
2. My sweet husband....
3. The Lord graciously giving me my dream teaching job and the precious kids/families that came with it!
4. Seasons of waiting on the Lord
5. My dog Neila
6. A cozy apartment
Oh and 7. NEW STUDENTS! Welcome Mack Wooddell! :)

Go ahead and comment below (you'll have to click the post title to comment if you're reading this via email) with a few things you're thankful for!

I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday. I sure did miss seeing those sweet faces during the break!

Mrs. Houck = One Proud Teacher

My super thoughtful 6th grade students (minus Mack because she couldn't make it) got together this weekend on their own accord. To my delight and surprise, not only did they hang out, they put together a shoe box for Operation Christmas Child.

This makes a teacher super proud and SUPER happy.

Thank you Mrs. Gallagher and Mrs. Cornwell for sending me pictures.
